THE SHAMAN

The shaman in tribal cultures has been the backbone of the tribe responsible for the spiritual, emotional and physical well being of its people for thousands of years. The shaman brings their sacred visions of ancient spirits and power animals out as ritual. By this ritual process, most similar to prayer, imagery, and art, and through the ritual process of journeying to the spirit world, the shaman heals themselves, others, the earth, as well as, finding food sources, retrieving lost soul parts and over all finding solutions to restore physical, emotional and spiritual balance within their community or tribe.

By having visions of healing, and doing sacred ritual, the shaman makes the visions come true. The shaman manifests reality in the outer world, from the visionary world. That is the same way the world was created from Her vision. We are all Her vision on earth, we are. The word shaman originated among the Siberian Tungus (Evenks) and literally means he (or she) who knows and are thought to predate all organized religions, and certainly date back to the Neolithic period.

THE SHAMAN | Keeper of the Souls

The writing below was brought to me by the spirits while meditating in Forest Park in Portland, Oregon on beautiful spring day in April 2008.

They are the guardians of the souls that flow through the mystic and earth bound realms. They walk the path of medicine calling home the pieces lost and heal the pains within.

Calling to the Directions their voices ride the winds and they hear him and come to celebrate the link between the worlds. Spirit knows the Shaman’s voice and hears their intentions and the spirits come from all directions to help in their great quest, for they are the Keeper of the Souls.

Their people cry out for guidance and healing and the Shamans mount their chariots: animals, teachers and Angels. They call to the Standing Nation, the Stone Nation, the insects and the Elementals to search the realms for the healing of their tribe. Their fearless endeavor needs no validation and their bravery is only one component of their self-less life.

To the heavens and below the earth and through the gates of the Middle Realm, they will search and query until they find the answer to make healthy the souls of their people. They will climb the hill and surrender their needs, perhaps to the death of themselves so that they may bring life back to the vibration and joy it was meant to live.

Through the veil they pass to seek the light, the benevolent and compassionate ones, for they are their guardians, their guides to the salvation and regeneration of their children.  These promises they made to watch over them many moons ago (the appointment of being the Shaman by the people of the tribe).

They look to the Ancestors for provisions of food and seek their wisdom to restore balance to their people that they may live wholly in tune with all that's been given them on this earth. Their responsibility is great. But no task is too daunting, no mountain too steep, no realm too mysterious and no burden too heavy.

That's why they are the Keeper of the Souls.
